Nagari Saniang Baka, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, experienced a hydrometeorological disaster in the form of a flash flood in late 2025 that swept away 23 houses, cut off 3 bridges, collapsed 1 Islamic junior high school, and buried hundreds of hectares of rice fields under sediment. Residents' documentation of the event was scattered across personal devices and social media and had not been curated into a coherent disaster education medium. This community service activity aimed to produce a community-participation-based documentary video as a medium for disaster education and resilience strengthening, while also measuring community reception of the resulting video. The implementation method employed a Participatory Rural Appraisal and Community-Based Documentation approach through six stages: needs assessment and socialization, documentation collection and curation, interviews and field documentation, production and post-production, validation-socialization-screening, and dissemination and evaluation. The activity produced one documentary video of approximately 8-10 minutes, socialized and handed over to the Saniang Baka Village Government on 17 September 2026, attended by 31 participants across community groups. Evaluation of 33 respondents showed mean scores of 4.35-4.52 (on a 1-5 scale) across all assessment dimensions, with 100% of respondents rating the video good to very good and feasible as a disaster education medium, although one directly affected survivor gave a low rating indicating a need for continued psychosocial support. This activity demonstrates that community-based audiovisual documentation is effective as a disaster education medium and as a vehicle for strengthening collective memory and community social resilience.
